Recently Lucy and I toured the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. I was amazed at the history behind this prison. It was originally designed to be a solitary confinement facility, where people were supposed to think about their crime and repent of their actions. They were not allowed any contact with the outside world, or with any of the other inmates. What was supposed to cause sanity, actually produced insanity. After some years this method was dropped and the penitentiary was adapted to a regular prison.

I was at a funeral today. The brother of one of the youth girls was shot to death last week. He wasn’t even twenty-years-old. I didn’t know him personally, but it was still sad.

The murder rate in Philadelphia is continuing to climb.

I am very familiar with the song Amazing Grace but this video from YouTube brings out a new depth to the history of the song. Wintley Phipps does a great job.
