Violent Weekend

April 22nd, 2007

This has been another violent weekend for Philadelphia. There have already been 125 homicides this year. What is sad is that over half of the murderers never get convicted. People are too afraid to speak up.

Here is an article from www.kyw1060.com.

Just before 11am Sunday, Philadelphia recorded another shooting incident for the weekend. That shooting occurred near 46th and Walnut Streets.

Hate

April 21st, 2007

Here is a quote that speaks about how we are all created equal… at least I believe this is what Jesus taught.

Once the game is over, the King and the pawn go back in the same box.
- Italian proverb

Today it was very nice, so there were a lot of people spending there day in Center City. I was there with a group to distribute Christian literature and sing. I came across another group who was preaching. I believe they even had a KJV bible. They were preaching that Islam and Christianity was false. They also said that Jesus was black, (I don’t believe he was white) and that the Bible says that the white people are devils. There was hatred coming out of their mouth. To see where they are coming from we need to think back 200 years to what the Caucasians did to them. Slavery and inequality was also evil and did not exemplify Christ.

There was a couple who after listening to them for awhile, became frustrated and left. I heard the wife say to her husband, “That is not our Lord!” She is right. Our Lord does not hate, but rather gives Himself in love to those who hate Him.

We are called to do the same.

What are You?

Recently a new girl to the Tuesday Bible study pointed to the driver of her van and asked, “Is he Amish?” Another girl promptly replied, “No, he is Caucasian.”

Rest

April 4th, 2007

Recently my co-teacher was speaking about heaven to the youth guys class on Tuesday night. When he explained to them that there isn’t any night in heaven, one of the guys reacted and thought we should be able to sleep in heaven. My co-teacher explained why we won’t need to sleep, but he wasn’t satisfied. He simply stated, “I don’t care what you think or God thinks. When I get to heaven I’m going to bed.” The class had to laugh.
This is so true though. We long for a land of rest. Isn’t this what heaven is? I’m feeling it.

We Met At the Bar

April 4th, 2007

The other day I was on my bicycle when I met a friend standing outside the bar. He needed a couple of dollars for a beer, which I wasn’t going to give him. I talked with him for awhile, trying to help him understand that this wasn’t really what he wanted. He didn’t hear me. He thought one beer would help him feel better. I wonder what story is hidden in there. I wonder what pain is being covered.
This same street corner has video cameras installed, because of it being a high crime rate intersection. Maybe some security person in an office somewhere saw me talking with him. This is kind of strange
