Christians Who Lead the Life of Hitler

February 27th, 2007

Below is an excerpt from a blog which I enjoy reading (www.evtales.com).

Here is an excerpt:

What do you do when you run into a person who has asked “Jesus into their heart,” but still leads the life of Hitler?

How should a Christian respond to someone who says that they were born again at age three, but their photo is on the post office wall?

How can a believer appropriately deal with a “cursing like a sailor,” yet “Spirit filled, sealed by the blood” follower who also owns a strip joint?

Fallen World

February 22nd, 2007

I thought this was a neat picture because it shows the reality of life in a clear way. It shows the reality that all joys in life seem to be tainted by pain and sin. This is why we long for “another country.”

The Sixth Commandment

February 22nd, 2007

The other night I was teaching my youth guys the sixth commandment. We spoke about murder and how God feels about it. We also looked at why God hates murder. We mentioned guns, knives, bats, and hammers as instruments that can be used for murder.
I then took them for a turn and presented them with what is “legal” murder – abortion. When I showed them the pictures of cut up babies I had their attention. I believe it must have surprised them a bit. It was a blessing to be able to teach that life is sacred, even if that life is unborn.

Without a Father

February 11th, 2007

It seems recently I have been impressed with how important a father figure is in the life of a child.  Too many of America’s youth life without a father.  If they don’t have a father are they destined to make the same mistake that their father made?  Will the cycle simply continue?

Here are some lyrics that I thought were good.

        Broken Home

Hush little baby, don’t you say a word
That was the last he heard her say
Then daddy walked away
And momma cried for many days
She didn’t know why he went away
And left the baby and her alone
That autumn day
Well, the years slipped by, but not the pain
Of his goodbye, on her pale face

And why must she be left alone
Why, when she did nothin’ wrong
Oh, God, why can some hearts be so cold
And leave their families
And run away from home

And you can be sure that baby grew
Missing the love of that one man he never knew
And when he came to fall in love
He settled down, but when things got tough
He tried a little but not enough
Then he gave up
On those eight years they’d spent together
He left her in tears
Breaking the promise of forever

And why must she be left alone
Why, when she did nothin’ wrong
Oh, God, why can some hearts be so cold
And leave their families
And run away from home

Most broken hearts start with broken homes
No questions asked, no problems solved
Just more lost hope of ever living unified
By the love which never dies
No, they don’t even hear Him call
They have no faith at all
But He goes on, loving so deeply
Those He’d call His own
If only they would seek Him

That’s why God’s love is so strong
He can forgive each and every wrong
If you choose to live like His precious Son
You will never be far away from Home
No, you won’t be far from Home

Cardboard and the homeless

February 5th, 2007

Philly is having some extremely cold weather.  I can’t imagine what it would be like to be caught out in the cold with temperatures being in the teens.
I received a letter from a rescue mission in Philadelphia (Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission).  It it they stated that “a bundle of cardboard can mean the difference between life and death” to a homeless person.  It went on to quote a former homeless man in Philly who said that he “had a buddy who died of exposure right there in a park.”

Parking

February 4th, 2007

Parking is at a premium in Philly. You can easily pay from $10 to $17 to park in a lot for a few hours. You have very few options but to pay this money, if you are in Center City with a car. That is why taking SEPTA (public transit) or a bike is very practical and efficient at times.

Food also isn’t cheap. You will find many corner stores or street vendors who sell food. Below is a steak and bagel shop.
