Life is Cheap

September 28th, 2006

Around the beginning of the week someone was shot to death less than two blocks away from the church. I didn’t find out about it until a couple of days later. Media doesn’t cover it. Homicide is so common in Philadelphia (especially in areas like were I live) that it doesn’t even make the news.

In 2005 Philadelphia had 377 homicides.

It seems people are killed for very little. Life holds little value. Why would it if you don’t have the HOPE of a HAPPY ending?

Copper again!

September 26th, 2006

Monday morning we found out we again lost our telephone and DSL. I promptly went to the corner lot at the end of the block to investigate. Sure enough, there was a 20ft piece of telephone wire missing. Someone must have wanted some copper for recycling again.

Our phone service came back up early this afternoon. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

Copper??

September 19th, 2006

Saturday morning we found out that all of our phone lines didn’t work. We called Verizon but they couldn’t come around until Monday. So yesterday a service man came out to investigate the problem. This is what he found: A 100 wire cable on our block was missing a 15 ft section. We are thinking someone wanted some money from the copper.

They phones were up again yesterday afternoon. We did have a quieter weekend, but I did miss the DSL.
