Faith Mennonite High School

May 23rd, 2006

Faith Mennonite High School’s evangelism team was here for the weekend (May 18-22). They passed out tracts, went to a Mosque, and were at a rescue mission to do a service and helped serve food.

It was great having them here.

Here is a picture of the group on the Ben Franklin Bridge.

B.O.B. Facilitators Orientation

May 16th, 2006

May 10-14 I was at an orientation weekend at Camp Andrews. They are starting a new program called BOB (Beyond Our Borders) which allows us to take youth one 5-day canoe trips. This weekend was designed for those who are planning to take youth on their canoe trips.

We put into the Potomac River around 12 noon on Friday.
Here we are leaving out.

The first day we had to portage a dam. It was about a 15 to 20 foot drop.

Sunday morning we hit rapids and a strong head wind. It was a new experience for me. They were all class 1 and 2 rapids with one being a class 3. On the class 3 I thought we might lose it and the person I was canoeing with thought I was going to fly over. It was fine. It is kind of exciting for an amateur. Here is a picture of the rapids/rocks with Dan (our leader) giving us canoeing tips.

Here we are listening to him.

We pulled out of the river on Sunday at 1pm about 45 miles down and three days later from where we put in.

Three Years… Yeah

May 8th, 2006

It has been three years since I finished my chemotherapy. (I had my last treatment on May 2, 2003) I have been blessed to be alive and to have had no reoccurrence of my colorectal cancer. Sometimes I wonder if I really realize how serious my cancer was (and still is) with it being a stage three cancer.

I know one thing: I have been miraculously blessed with health from God, and I want to live my life for his glory, and waste it for the sake of the Gospel. (I’m not sure I mean the last part though.)

My story of cancer has really been God’s story. God has used all the pain, trauma, and anxiety for his purpose. Sometimes it is hard to see the good, but I know that the heart of the Father is good.

Here are some of the people who God has blessed me with:
Family – They supported and tried to help ease my sometimes intense pain. They sacrificed a lot.

Church – I had a church which prayed and supported me.

Friends – I had had friends (some who I didn’t even know) all over the nation praying for me.

Doctors – In this journey God has introduced me to some of the greatest doctors and their staff. I have been blessed to have such caring and professional doctors fighting for me. I connected with their great love and passion for Christ.

I am still in the journey. My cancer fight is not over. I still have doctors visits every half year and extensive exams yearly.

Stay in the fight.
