Cummunity Cleanup

April 30th, 2006

Yesterday (Saturday) we had a youth group from Ephrata here. They did cleanup at the church and around the cummunity. In the evening they grilled hamburgers and hotdogs for the neighborhood children in the backyard. After the meal the youth played with the children.

Here are some pictures.

Deity of Christ

April 30th, 2006

I met some people in Center City when I was with a tract distribution team recently. One of the men I got in a conversation with tried to corner me on the subject about whether Jesus was the Son of God. He asked me who Jesus was crying out to on the cross, meaning how could Jesus be God if He was calling out to God. He walked away laughing at me.

How should my response have been to this man? What should I have used to defend deity of Christ?

Busy….

April 26th, 2006

It has been a busy couple weeks. Galen has been at SMBI for the last two week, so I am the only single guy around here now. I’ve been running.

It has also been stretching. We have dealing with a situation which is way beyond what Duane or anyone can change – “Come Spirit, move with your healing power.” Pray for this individual that they would find victory in the Cross.

On Easter Sunday we had a sunrise service at 6:30 by the Delaware River close to the Ben Franklin Bridge. It was a nice morning.

In Sunday School one of the girls (12 years old) made an interesting (I believe sincere) paraphrase of what the Centurion who believed, said at the cross: “Holy snaps that must have been the Son of God.” It kind of stuck me when I heard it.
Last weekend SMBI was here. They sent about 8 students here for their Missions Involvement Weekend. Galen was along with them and took charge of the group.

Today I did some mowing and had dinner with one of my friends. I made some broccoli, rice, and chicken. Also some salad. Not bad food for me!

I hope everyone has a good week.

Peace out

Keep Praying

Kelly Drive

April 9th, 2006

This afternoon I went biking with one of the youth guys. We went to Kelly Drive / Art Museum area. The weather is getting nice so there were a lot of people out running and biking.

I took my camera along.

Saturday Noon

April 8th, 2006

Today I took the subway to see a homeless man I had spoken with on Thursday. It was raining so I didn’t really expect to see him at the street corner he said he normally stays at (and where we had agreed to meet), but I just felt that I should go in. Well I got there and I didn’t see him so I just said a quick prayer for the street and about that quick he walked around the corner with two other homeless “friends”. He wasn’t even looking for me. I know the Lord worked it out.

I bought him lunch. We had a great time talking. He has a alcohol problem and has experienced big pain. I guess the question is: In this wilderness, can I see Edem – Can I see God moving.

Urban Workshop & Choir

April 3rd, 2006

Well we had a busy weekend.

Friday afternoon and Saturday we were at SMBI for the Urban Missions Workshop. We had a great time with other Mennonite urban ministries. The theme of the weekend was Spiritual Warfare. The speakers were Phil Herschberger (from Camp Andrews) and Duane Eby (missionary for 18 years in Guatamala). Great teaching. We arrived back in Philly around midnight with the time change.

Sunday evening we had a choir program in Reading, PA. It was encouraging to be in another Mennonite city church. By the way this is the home church for the group “Garments of Praise”. We got back to philly around 10:30 last night. So we have had a busy weekend.

Hope your weekend went well.
